Context

What makes this sector different

Healthcare has the clearest boundary of any sector we work in: the administrative burden around care is a legitimate target for automation, and clinical decision-making is not. We work firmly on the administrative side — referrals, scheduling, documentation, correspondence, reporting and the movement of information between systems.

That boundary is a design constraint, not a disclaimer. Anything that could be read as clinical advice is out of scope for the systems we build, and where an output informs a clinical process it is presented as source material for a clinician, attributed and unaltered.

This page sets out how our capabilities apply to this sector's operating pressures. It is not a claim of prior engagements in it. The solution patterns we publish are labelled as designs rather than completed engagements, and we will tell you directly where a requirement would be new to us.

Operating pressures

  • Administrative load competing directly with time available for care
  • Referral and appointment processes spread across fax, email and portals
  • Patient data governed by strict access, consent and retention obligations
  • Systems that cannot exchange information, forcing duplicate entry
  • Reporting obligations to funders, regulators and internal governance
  • Workforce scheduling against fluctuating demand and skill-mix requirements

Where we would start

Use cases that tend to pay back first

Ordered by how quickly the result can be verified. Where output is easy to check, automation carries less risk.

Referral and correspondence processing

Structured extraction from inbound referrals and letters into the receiving system, with a person confirming before the record is created.

Administrative document generation

Drafting routine non-clinical correspondence and administrative documentation from existing records, for staff review and sign-off.

Operational dashboards

Visibility of waiting times, throughput, capacity and backlog on agreed definitions, with drill-through to the underlying records.

Policy and procedure assistants

Cited answers drawn from current internal policy and standard operating procedures — never from clinical literature, and never offering clinical guidance.

System integration

Reliable exchange between administrative systems using standard interfaces, with reconciliation reporting so nothing is silently lost.

Governance

Constraints we design to from the start

These are the requirements that decide the architecture in this sector. Retrofitting any of them means rebuilding, so they are settled during design.

  • Clinical decision support is explicitly out of scope; systems address administrative process only
  • Patient data minimisation: only the fields the process requires, retained only as long as needed
  • Access controls aligned to clinical governance and role-based need to know
  • Consent and lawful basis for processing documented as part of the design
  • Full audit trail of who accessed or changed a record, and when
  • Where an output informs care, it is presented as attributed source material for a clinician
